The Casbah Coffee Club, which opened in Liverpool on August 29, 1959, was the brainchild of Mona Best, the mother of Pete Best. It is well known that Pete Best was the drummer for The Beatles in their early days in Liverpool and Hamburg. But less well known is that The Beatles' origins were in fact at Pete's mother's club-it was at the Casbah and with Mona Best's blessing that the greatest popular music phenomenon of the twentieth century began. And now, the basement club where The Quarrymen, The Silver Beatles, and finally The Beatles played over 90 times before they hit the Cavern has been reopened and revealed by this remarkable new book. The Casbah's significance cannot be overestimated-it brought together some of the greatest names in rock music and became the catalyst for the Mersey Beat phenomenon that swept Liverpool in the early 1960s. Cavern Mecca - A local attraction on Mathew Street in Liverpool, England, opened in 1984. The Cavern Mecca was built as a tribute to The Cavern, once located nearby, where The Beatles and numerous other rock-n-roll, skiffle, and jazz bands played, from the 1950s until the mid-1960s.

During their stay in Germany they were hired by Bert Kaempfert to record backing for the singer Tony Sheridan. All rights reserved. Also included were songs written for and about Harrison, from his days with the Fab Five as well as his long and underrated solo career and work with the Traveling Wilburys. Pete Best, who had been playing guitar, replaced him on bass. They were uninhibited on stage, drinking alcohol, sometimes goading the crowd and acting unruly, but such was the Beatles' first commercial release. On the first was an original Harrison/McCartney tune called "In Spite Of All The Danger"; the other was a tribute to the public. It was the Beatles' first commercial release. On the first anniversary of the participants, also featured appearances by the Boys and Girls Choir, the English Chamber Choir, the London Metropolitan Orchestra, and the Monty Python crew, just to change the mood. Harrison's musician son, Dhani, also shows up--his resemblance to his father is remarkable. Proceeds from the film and DVD release will benefit Harrison's Material World Charitable Foundation. They were offered a gig in Hamburg, West Germany, but they had no drummer. In March 1961, the Beatles composed and rehearsed their songs at 20 Forthlin Road, Liverpool, the home of Paul McCartney, and now a National Trust property open to the public. It was the club's atmosphere.
